Food and cooking have been at the heart of my working life for many years, being a freelance book editor and sometime writer specializing in cookery. I've had the good fortune to work on the books of some of the greatest cooks, home economists, cookery writers, chefs and TV presenters of the contemporary culinary scene. But it doesn't end there – I am a food enthusiast in my spare time too. I find much pleasure in devising simple home-cooked dishes, cooking up baked treats for family, friends and neighbours and dining out in a modest but discriminating way when time and budget allows.

This great food love of mine also makes me preoccupied and troubled by the flipside of food – the continuing prevalence of processed foods, the relentless rise in obesity levels and the endless pedalling of fad diets and healthy eating/lifestyle quick-fixes and myths.

The result is that I feel moved to record and broadcast my own everyday explorations in glorious food from my compact working kitchen on the eastern extremity of The Island. This is food as in joyful sustenance rather than seductive indulgence, and yet always for pleasure not penance.
